At the Central University Games on the 13th of April, Adelaide Uni Touch Club qualified its mens and mixed teams for the Australian University Games. The men's team, crawled over the finishing line against Flinders university and then backed up to beat Uni SA in the next time slot.
The Women felt like the Socceroos at the world cup and came up against some very stiff opposition, fought hard, but were unable to win a match against. For the purposes of the legend that is AU touch club, the women were extremely gallant, and fought to the last lady.
The Mixed team, was the best, and most underrated team that Adelaide Uni has been able to field for the last couple of years. A precision game plan of driving up the field before getting the girls to ‘go down’ for the guys in attack saw us beat Flinders Uni easily, and then, in a excellent game of touch, defeat Uni SA by 3 touch downs. Uni SA fielded an Australian representative and 5 state representatives. It is always very satisfying to see the top dog go home with his tail between his legs. The mixed team has been one of the most successful University touch teams from South Australia in recent history, winning the Southern Uni games in 2004 and finishing 6th in 2005 at the Australian Uni Games. So the Men and Mixed, now sit back and wait for all comers at the AUG’s, while the women need to go practice their ‘touch’ at Ballarat in the Southern Uni Games.
