Match Reports September 8th and 11th

Women's A

AUTC Jaguars (10) v State Stars (0)

The Jaguars have continued their winning run with a 10-0 score over the 3rd ranked State Stars .. Straight driving/rucking in the defending half followed by spreading the ball wide and wrapping out from half (good against shooters) on the open side was consistent throughout the game .. The dummy was also used quite effectively by Paige and Chrissy on several occasions ..

This game was a massive improvement compared to their first game against them and it was most enjoyable to watch the girls hit their straps and keep at it (running and defending) for both halves of the game ...

Thursday Mixed A

AUTC Cougars (2) v Dodgers (2)

The cougars took on the mighty Dodgers team and escaped with a slightly disappointing 2-all draw.  The team played with the much appreciated help of recently returned Sarah Hardy and Trish Mullany, but failed to have the excitement that has sometimes surrounded the way it has played.  The team showed much more spark in the second half but failed to score the touch downs required to win the game. With a little more running, particularly off the ball, the team will be very strong for the last few games of the season.

AUTC Cheetahs (8) v The Away Team (2)

This was another game by the Cheetahs where a fairly lacklustre effort was camouflaged by the team's overall ability and capacity to be able to score touchdowns at will against inferior opposition. The team started slowly and this approach held for the game, particularly in defence, where uninspired ruck defence proved unable to rein in the one-dimensional and moderately paced rucking of our opponents who to their credit showed far greater interest in retaining possession than the AUTC team. Attacking play was more positive in terms of intent but concentration and finishing were lacking, as the team spent far more time in it's own half than was needed due to repeated passing and other skill errors around the roll ball.

Thursday Mixed E/F

AUTC Ocelots (6) v Oil Blacks (0)

The Ocelots have done something we have been able to do all year and win two games in a row. Over the last couple of weeks we have really worked on the getting basics right, and having done that, especially in defence, we are suddenly unbeatable.

Last Thursday (according to reports) our rucking was the best it has been all year, and players were running on the ball. We took one player on and then made the pass, continually causing an overlap, and giving opportunities to score. We were covering each other in defence and had an easy win.  Now we just have to work on picking the right option in attack and letting the ball do the work rather than running into each other’s gaps. All is looking positive going into the finals.

Thursday Mixed G

AUTC Panthers (5) v UniSA (4)

Best players (as voted by opposition) Jeremy and Laura, Best players (as voted by coaches) David and Trish

A last minute game time change from last time slot to 6:55 didn't phase the team and everyone who had planned to play made it out to the earlier time.  We continued our focus from previous weeks on rucking straight up and making yards. Whilst it didn't go as well as it usually does in the first half, after a great half time talk we came out in the second half and consistantly made it right up to our scoring line with our six touches.  We are also improving on hitting our outside gaps and choosing the right moments to do a half run or step.

The panthers always play a real team game - whilst the score card may only list one or two scorers every touchdown is a team effort. Particular mention must be made of the girls who always work really hard in defence and in attack look threatening and hit their gaps with pace and great timing which distracts the opposition's attention from the person who ultimately scores.  Panther's have had a great season and are looking forward to the finals

Thursday Mixed I
