Match reports September 22nd and 25th

Monday Men's A

Lions (14) v Tigers (1)

The first week of finals saw the two Uni sides going head to head. With injury and trips overseas reducing our numbers, and Ryan reduced to supporting from the sidelines due to a dodgy hamstring left us a little light on for subs. Early on in the piece it was nip and tuck as the Tigers put a lot of defensive pressure on the Lions, it was only late in the first half that the Lions were able to start to assert their authority.

This continued into the second half and saw some fantastic touch downs being scored, none better than Brett "the Goat" Northey testing out his suspect back with a diving score off a DJ drive and switch. Congratulations to the Tigers for a strong season and forcing the best out of us to get into the Grand Final.

Hopefully those of you not playing, or playing at other times are able to get out and provide some moral support. It would be great to see you out.

Good luck to those participating in Grand Finals or the University Games. Don't forget last chance to get your end of season dinner tickets, it looks like being a fantastic night and there are only limited numbers of tickets left.

Thursday Mixed A

Cheetahs (11) v Dodgers (3)

The Cheetahs produced a dominant performance in overcoming the Dodgers to make it through to the GF. The first half of the game saw Ninh rack up a brace of touchdowns on the back of maintained possession and solid defence. Team members were heard asking if any one else was allowed to score.

The second half saw Ninh's scoring rampage continue, however other players also got on the board in what was a solid team performance that secured the first half of the potentail AUTC showdown in the Thursday A final.

Cougas (9) v Average Joes (5)

The Mixed A Semi Final v Average Joes saw, the Mixed A Cougas score more touchdowns than any game in the minor round season. This was the only way that the cougars could beat a team that came out full of fast running.

A bad start from the coach saw the team with only 2 players on the field when the referee blew his whistle. The Average Joes took full advantage of the confusion when a nameless AUTC winger let the red shirted Joes score on the outside after she thought that a team mate (who was standing off the field at the time) was the actual winger. Some sloppy play by AUTC, combined with the ultra fast speed of Smythy from the Average Joes let them score several more touch downs in the first half.

The team began to lift in the late part of the first half and began to drive the ball much better, allowing Alex to run through the defensive line of the opposition on a number of occasions to score some well needed touchdowns. The score at half time was AUTC just infront.

The final half saw AUTC tighten up the defense and play a better team game in attack. Some reasonable quality team touch downs resulted, and the score finished 9-5 at full time.

A grand final awaits…
